

Who We Are
- The staff of Coastal Women's Shelter believes that everyone deserves to be treated with respect and that it is important for our community to invest in those who want to improve their lives and the lives of their families. We are committed to eradicating abuse and sexual violence in Craven, Jones, and Pamlico Counties. It is our mission to help families break the cycle of abuse and sexual violence and acquire the skills necessary to promote healthy family relationships. We are dedicated to providing crisis intervention, supportive services, education and advocacy.
What We Do
Services - 100% confidentiality is maintained for every client by all of our staff. Feel secure in knowing that your identity, location and situation will not be revealed. This applies to all of the programs and services that our agency offers.
- Crisis Hotline (252) 638-5995 - Our crisis line is open 24 hours, seven days a week. Call for assistance, information and a listening ear.
- Court advocacy and assistance - Our advocates help clients locate resources from other community and government agencies; and to work with law enforcement and the court systems. The goal of the advocacy program is to inform clients of all of their options and help them to carry out an individualized plan that is safe and effective.
- Safe House - The Coastal Women's Shelter provides a safe haven from violence and a place to heal from abuse and sexual violence. Survivors and families who reside in the safe house have a safe place to plan for the future. Our staff also helps families design and implement goals for finding and maintaining housing and employment. In addition, residents receive guidance in child/parent interaction. All services are tailored to the individual needs of the safe house residents.
- Support Group - This group provides survivors with an opportunity to share their experiences and gain wisdom through fellowship with others who have walked a similar path. A certified counselor leads our support group, childcare is provided, and the group is free of charge.
- New Beginnings - Our classes assist survivors in the path towards security and self-sufficiency. Education is available in the following areas: personal finance/money management, job skills, life skills. We will also help you to find appropriate degree and certification programs, especially in conjunction with the local community college system.
- Community awareness and education - Through speaking engagements, teaching opportunities, distributing literature, fundraising events and collaboration with other community organizations, our organization seeks to increase knowledge and understanding of the causes and effects of domestic and family violence in Eastern North Carolina.
