The Broad Street Clinic is seeking medical providers to serve one day a week for 3 to 4 hours seeing patients at the clinic.  We are looking for retired individuals who have a passion for serving and caring for those people in our community and the surrounding area who are uninsured and/or underinsured.

HeartWorks Afterschool and Summer Programs need volunteers to work with individual K-8 students or groups in a diverse, state of the art classroom setting in Bayboro, NC.  All staff and volunteers are required to pass a criminal background check. Current volunteers are tutoring students in literacy and math, reading to students, teaching flutaphone, chess, bridge, African drumming, and checkers, and helping in classrooms and the cafeteria. We are looking for RN's who would like to be trained in Limited Ultrasound.

CPCC is going mobile and will have limited ultrasound capabilities.  If you would like to be a part of this groundbreaking service to our communities, please give us a call!

It is in times of need that we discover the full impact of a community. Hurricane Florence came ashore in September 2018 causing catastrophic damage to homes and communities across Eastern NC—producing over 25 inches of rain in some areas—United Way of Coastal Carolina has worked closely with local agencies and long-term recovery groups to help families that faced devastating losses from the historic flooding. 

This was the most destructive storm since Hurricane Hazel in 1954 to affect communities including Carteret, Craven, Jones and Pamlico Counties. Hurricane Florence left a wake of destruction in its path—but there is still hope.

United Way of Coastal Carolina has a history of coordinating community responses to help those affected in times like these. Whether by raising funds to aid in relief efforts, engaging community leaders or mobilizing partners to help with on-the-ground long-term recovery, United Way offers hope and help when it is most needed.

Born Learning Trails create valuable community resources for early childhood learning, and offers opportunities for visibility and volunteer engagement.

“Education.”  Many of us automatically think “school” when we hear that word.  But learning happens everywhere, especially for young children.  United Way supports early childhood learning in diverse ways: through reading programs, book drives of course, but also in parks and on playgrounds.

That’s right – learning while playing.  United Way’s national engagement campaign, Born Learning, helps parents, caregivers and communities use everyday moments outdoors to boost school readiness of children in their preschool years.  The quality of children’s early learning experiences is critical to success in school and consequently, in life. Perhaps the most visible components of Born Learning campaign is the Born Learning Trail.  The trail features age-appropriate, simple-to-construct activities that can be set up outdoors or inside.  Ten games on engaging signs that are placed along the trail help parents and caregivers create learning opportunities for young children. 

In June 2016, United Way of Coastal Carolina installed the first Born Learning Trail at Kidsville in New Bern with volunteers from BB&T's Lighthouse Project and an individual donation by Ken & Dru Wilkinson.  In 2017 thanks to a Grant from the Carolina Panthers and volunteers from Leadership Carteret and BB&T's Lighthouse Project two more trails were installed in Carteret County.  One at Shevans Park in Morehead City and another at Freedom Park in Beaufort.

We are seeking individuals on a volunteer basis who would work with the Senior Pharmacy Program Coordinator to help interview seniors for addition to the program, including reviewing their finances with them to determine what their needs are to live a healthier life.  This is a commitment of 2 hours weekly to begin determining how to best implement this program. 

In addition, we could use donations of Premier Protein nutrition drinks for those we serve with Diabetes as they are low in sugar content.  Any donations of incontinence wear in size Large or bigger that pull up are greatly appreciated as well!

Volunteers are the backbone of Coastal Women’s Shelter. Our volunteers range in age from 12 to 84 (depending on where the work is located) and work as much—or as little—as they can.  They help us keep the doors open in a variety of ways, such as:

•    Working at the Helping Hands Boutique—merchandising, selling, working the registers and pricing.  Helping Hands operates the Boutique and a warehouse.                                                                                                                                                         •    Working at our fundraisers—selling tickets, helping at the events, helping with advertising.                                                      •    Working in our administrative office—answering phones, doing light administrative work, filing and answering the door.              •    Working to support clients as court advocates-court accompaniment.                                                                                       

•    Working at the Safe House—helping with clients, providing transportation for clients for appointments, helping with childcare.

PruittHealth Hospice is seeking volunteers. Our goal is to help patients and families make the most of the end of life. We need compassionate people to provide support for our patients, provide respite and support for family members, and provide administrative support to our office staff. Volunteers are an integral part of our hospice team and there are as many different volunteer roles as there are volunteers. We provide extensive training and ongoing support.

Catholic Charities gives away hygiene products for both men, women and children.  This includes items such as soap, deodorant, shampoo, toothbrushes and toothpaste, etc.  We utilize these items even when we are out of funds for direct assistance.  We also provide nutritional supplement drinks (Ensure, Boost, etc) and incontinence wear (Depends, etc) to seniors in our Senior Pharmacy Program.  Any donations would be greatly appreciated as these items are considered non-essential but contribute to a feeling of well-being!

Craven Literacy Council truly depends on volunteers. Our small staff leverages the talent and time of over a hundred community members each year to meet the needs of adult learners, conduct special events, and complete all administrative duties. Volunteer instructors and training team members are the front line to fighting adult illiteracy. The Council’s Board of Directors are all volunteers; they provide oversight and resource development for the organization as a whole. Volunteers work with staff to raise awareness, coordinate fundraisers and other events, and keep our building and grounds intact.  Volunteers are also needed to help with events such as the Daddy Daughter Sweetheart Ball in February.

CLC can always use donations of reams of copy paper, paper towels, toilet paper, and WalMart or Staples gift cards.  If you have a laptop that you are no longer using, we can get it refurbished to give to our hardworking students who can't afford to purchase one.  Especially during these times, donations of hand sanitizer, face masks, and cleaning wipes are especially appreciated.

Site Volunteers for distribution of educational materials, medical supplies such as incontinence wear and nutritional supplement drinks, etc.; Commitment is once per month for about 4 hrs; very rewarding to interact with seniors 60 years old and up!

Urgent Need! Craven County Disaster Recovery Alliance (CCDRA) meets regularly to assess the needs of Craven County residents following Hurricane Florence, Dorian, as well as the COVID-19 Pandemic.  It will take years to put things back in order in Craven County.  

CCDRA's Client Service Representatives will continue to help identify those still affected by Hurricane Matthew, Florence, Dorian, and the COVID-19 Pandemic.  Yes, unfortunately there are many that were in the process or not yet helped from 2016.  In the coming months, CCDRA will work closely with FEMA, State and local Emergency Management and others to identify those that will need help in their long-term recovery process. Join with us to help these families and our community!

Client Services Representative Volunteers will work directly with CCDRA Office and Case Management staff to assist with clients. During the COVID-19 Pandemic, we are working remotely in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19. CSR Volunteers will assist with calling clients to update their unmet needs, do Caring Calls to check on the health and well-being of our clients, and assist us with directing them to available resources. This position may also include directing clients on how to digitally send in needed documentation for their files.

We are currently in search of long term volunteers interested in supporting the senior population in Craven and surrounding counties. 

Last year, our Food Bank distributed over 7 million pounds of food within our 5 county radius through the help of community partners and volunteers. But there are many, specifically seniors, who continue to struggle with not only food insecurity but with healthcare costs as well. Our organization is hoping to find volunteers ready to make a difference through SHIIP: Seniors' Health Insurance Information Program. 

With the many decisions people with Medicare have to make, we can never have too many volunteers to assist the thousands of beneficiaries in our county.  SHIIP volunteers help fellow senior citizens in their community with questions regarding Medicare, Medicare supplements, Medicare claims processing, Medicare Advantage, Medicare prescription drug plans and long-term care insurance.

A Disaster Action Team (DAT) is a team of trained Red Cross volunteers who respond to the scene of a disaster to provide immediate relief to victims. DAT volunteers ease the difficulties of people unexpectedly overwhelmed by disasters. You would be called on to interview, counsel and comfort disaster victims, and assess damage.

To be a DAT member, you must be 18 years or older; in good health and willing to make a commitment to a team. All disaster training is free!

Greeter volunteers play a vital role and are the initial contact to donors at our blood centers and bloodmobiles. As a Greeter, you will welcome and thank donors, maintain donor sign-in/appointment log and donor flow, direct donors to read pre-screening questions and distribute reading materials to donors.

Canteen Volunteers will assist the donors in the “Canteen” area of the blood center and bloodmobile. Responsibilities include: thanking donors for their gift of life, serving food and drinks; observe donors for possible reactions and alerting the collection staff if a potential problem is observed. 

(1) Give presentations to Military Recruits, Active Duty, and Reserve military personnel and their families explaining Red Cross services and how to access them.
(2) Review and do family follow up casework on a regular basis.
(3) Helping to coordinate Military Community events and attending local meetings.
(4) Assisting on base at the library or in a clinic setting(must have own military access)- Cherry Point

Adults needed to support unit service.  Working with youth ages 1st grade - through 21.  Cub Packs, Boy Scout Troops, Venture Crews and Explorer Posts.

We are in need of gift cards to purchase perishable food items such as bread, milk, fresh fruit and produce, and for medications not covered by insurance.  We also utilize gift cards to purchase necessary supplies for employment and education. Occasionally, clients need supplies that we do not have readily available in order to obtain employment, and gift cards to purchase these items reduce the strain on the agency budget. We also are in need of a freezer to aid in our efforts to maintain adequate supplies and support for our food pantry. 

RLM needs bikes ASAP! Our participants use bikes as their primary way to get around. We need a few more, reliable bikes to help our folks get to meetings, classes and appointments. 

RLM is in need of a fax/scanner for the administrative needs of our program. It will be greatly appreciated and help the admissions/record keeping run efficiently. 

Sometimes people want to volunteer, but they don't want to actually get in front of a group of teens...is that you?

The Pamlico County 4-H Triathlon Team is preparing for their 2017 season. However, our bikes are in need of new tires to keep our youth in racing form! Please feel free to contact us for more information about any of our programs.

RLM is in need of grocery store gift cards in ANY amount, as many of our participants come to us with little or no money for essential daily needs. All of our participants apply for food stamps when they arrive, and RCS and Salvation Army are extremely generous in supplying emergency food to our participants, but we are often in need of groceries in between the time participants receive emergency food and when food stamps are approved. Thank you so much!!

We are in need of bikes for our participants to use in getting to their treatment classes and 12-step meetings. Thank you!!

A troop leader is a volunteer who delivers Girl Scouting to a group of girls - Daisies (K-1), Brownies (2-3), Juniors (4-5), Cadettes (6-8), Seniors (9-10), and Ambassadors (11-12).

You help them choose and do activities that encourage them to discover new skills, connect with other girls, and take action to make the world a better place. You also work in partnership with girls' families to support the troop and its activities. Training is provided.

Craven Literacy Council has a waiting list of students needing tutors, and we welcome volunteers interested in becoming tutors. Our 15-hour workshop trains volunteer tutors to work with adults who need help with basic literacy skills, or who want to learn to speak and understand English.  The workshop will provide participants with teaching techniques and materials that will prepare them to tutor with the council.
